Wipe Me Down

I hate this. I yoosh don't let little things like this bug me, but this irritates me. I got Sen-dog an oil change yesterday, and the dude parked my car. I came back with the wipers all angulated. It takes like 2 seconds to return them to their normal home. Grrrrr.

Blame it on the Name [yeah yeah]

As I referenced here, I have a co-worker who never was able to get my name right.  I guess the right squiggly line doesn't show up in Outlook for proper nouns.  Anyway - look!  She finally got it right!  Good thing because we're out in a few...

Whoa...it's getting contagious

Whoa...the sabotaging is spreading. Instead of a Dan, now I'm a verb. I hope people regain spell check on their computers. Grrrrr.

Some of my Plaques Still say Reagan

Grrr, this chick ALWAYS can't get my name right! It's not like I have a Thai last name or anything either. And these were just the last few emails I received...it's been going on for YEARS. I'm gonna start replying to her emails by dropping off the second T. Watch.

The Madd Blogger

It kinda sucks that all these micro-bloggers pretty much took over the blogosphere. Are people's attention spans not capable of taking in more than 140 characters at a time? WTF is a tweet anyway? Only Tweet I know is that one singer who Missy put on a few years back. And I know I'm guilty of pasting notes into Facebook, but I've learned. All of you blogless people using FB to put up a pseudo-blogs need to recognize the real. Shoot truthfully if you don't have an actual blog, then I'm not even tryna read what you wrote. Yes I'm mad doggie. I don't know why, but all these 60 second blog thoughts kinda bug me. I know I don’t have anything substantial to say usually, but I've created my own space, generated my own followers and retained my own readership. It's pretty easy to have instant followers when you add everyone you vaguely know on these social networking sites.

I'm tired of reading pointless, forced and statuses that are trying too hard. My ish be more John Blaze than that. Yes I've toiled in the virtual world trying to carve my niche via my weblog, but damn, its getting oversaturated up in here. I liken it to American Idol syndrome, and just because there's a medium, it doesn't mean you could sing! Just as essays morphed into articles, then into blogs, then into status updates, then into tweets, then what? Actually, I'd rather see just one word updates. Maybe it'll improve our collective deteriorating vocabulary. Kinda like how albums nowadays rely on a song or 2 with a catchy hook, micro-blogs are ruining the art for me. Your voice is muddled among the other commoners vying for my attention.

So…I wonder how long it'll take me to sign up for twitter?

Work Pet Peeves

We all have them, yet it seems likely that these annoyances have been heightened. Maybe its because I'm staying longer and thus have more things to be bugged about. I try not to let the small things bug me, but sometimes I just can't help it!

So here we go:
- When you go to the copier and it's on sleep mode, and you have to wait like 2 minutes to photocopy 1 sheet of paper.
- When you go to the copier and someone doesn't reset their settings, so you end up printing 15 copies when you only needed one.
- When you go to the copier and someone leaves it in pdf mode, and you end up erroneously emailing it to the last person who used it.
- When someone sends you a file in .tif format and you are confused what program to open it up with. Aren't pdfs universal already?
- When your controller calls your assistant controller on speakerphone, when he's just sitting next door and both their doors are open. And you end up hearing an echo and it's effin' annoying.
- When someone walks by your desk and throws away something in your garbage can.
- When your controller has a meeting in his office and keeps his door open.
- When you ride an elevator and someone is hella close to the doors when it re-opens. Give me space!
- When people forward you a 10MB attachment that has no relevance to you. I only have a finite amount of space!
- Audit requests. Internal and external.
- When people throw away white paper in the black trash can when the blue recycling can is adjacent to it.

Bonus peeves!
- When you're riding BART and an officer randomly shoots and kills someone. No jp, when you're riding BART and you have the inside seat but are leaving, and the person sitting in the aisle just swings his/her legs toward the aisle, causing you to struggle to exit. Just get up!

Good Pho Real Hard to Find

I was fiending for some Pho today, since its mad cold and Pho hits the spot. I yelped it since my default spot down in The Dungeon has been closed for "renovation" seemingly forever. But really I bet that place was rat-infested or something. If you been down there, you know what I mean. For some reason that ish doesn't phase me too much haha. Anyway, I didn't want to walk 500 miles so naturally a spot that served Pho was a Chinese-owned donut shop called Happy Donuts. Yep, I bought my Pho at a donut shop, just for re-emphasis. I ventured down there [well all of 3 blocks] while their Pho was decent. I just don't like it when they give you 3 options - beef, beef ball and house special haha. Naturally I opted for the beef ball.

Pho real though, I can only find decent sandwich, burrito and Pho places in the FiDi. Edible, but not good. Like if they weren't convenient places to go, then I wouldn't even bother eating there again. Hmm I probably should just be brown-bagging my lunch anyway.

Shopping Lunch Bags

Ain't it funny when you open your floor's fridge or whatever, and see all these premium stores used as lunch bags? Like I just saw some beat up Saks 5th Avenue bag, and I'm unsure who it belongs to. C'mon, you probably just bought one thing there, but you're gonna floss by using their shopping bag as your lunch tote? And not to long ago I saw a Neiman Marcus bag in there. I can't hate on the Lululemon bags I see because them ones are mad durable!

But I can't front, the reason I brought this up is because I packed my lunch today. Amid all the Target and Marshalls plastic bags, I tried to find one that was compact, paper and semi-stuntastic. Luckily I found a Lacoste one, which was reasonable haha.

Anyway my work fridge is starting to look like a damn home refrigerator. I saw a loaf of bread in there, a carton of eggs and a half-gallon of juice with someone's name all attached to it. Isn't there etiquette to what portion of the fridge you should occupy? I also saw a freakin' banana - who refrigerates those?! Anyway when the day comes if I ever get my own office, best believe the first thing I'm gonna get for it is one of those mini-fridges, like we used to have in the dorms. Ahhh one day.

What Secret is Victoria Hiding?

Note To Self: When you buy something from Victoria’s Secret, first ensure you order want so you don’t have to go through the returns process. And then when you complete your profile ensure that the box is unchecked so you won’t receive any correspondence from them. So apparently I overlooked that 2nd step and what appears in my work email? None other than a VS promotion email! I don’t care if I get a free panty if I order 3 of them. I have never unsubscribed so fast in my life. Then I checked my stale mail the other day, and I see a VS catalog! I mean it wasn’t even the nice one with Marissa Miller in lingerie, but rather one that just sells their clothes and stuff, so Marissa might have very well been in there.

Remember before the VS catalogs were the rage? We had to resort to Sears and Mervyn's ads to get some cleavage shots haha. Man this generation is so spoiled...everything is just at their fingertips. Back then we had to rely on our wits and improvisation skills...but I digress.

So thanks you know who. Haha no worries I'm not tripping – happy early birthday!

In the Garage, word to Weezer

Once in awhile I have to drive-in to the City, so I generally check the Early Bird schedule at the Moscone Center Garage. Basically the closer it is to my office, the more you pay. So there’s a lot across the street that costs like $24 daily, then further more one that costs $17, and so forth. But the MCG is only $8 until 10p, so the 4 block walk is totally worth it. Shoot I just like walking by the St. Regis Hotel and seeing their fleet of Bentleys and Rolls Royces, hoping one day I could push a Phantom to the opera. Then I walk by the W Hotel and admire its architecture and design. Before you know it I’m at work!

So I pay for parking with pretax dollars, making the intrinsic cost of the $8 fee more like $6. Today I park there and see that they’re increasing the Early Bird special to $10 and out by 7p! Damn I can justify a 25% increase on food prices but a damn parking lot?! Your only operating costs are those levers that go up and down! George Moscone is rolling over in his grave. This Early Bird gets the bird.

***

Once in awhile I get random emails for job opportunities. Generally they contain a brief description of the job and requirements and so forth. I received one looking for an accountant with experience in “fix assets” who could start “immedaitely.” Granted I’m not the best proofreader but damn, at least I’m not looking for your business and secondly please spell correctly. And for them non-accounting heads generally they’re called FIXED ASSETS. That's like calling Collard Greens collar greens, or to carry the theme from yesterday, Corned Beef as Corn Beef. And this recruiter is dumb, since she just emailed maybe 300 people on the list without using BCC. Shoot I really was tempted to reply-all and call her out on these mistakes.

***

So I received my 2008-09 Property Tax Assessment value from Alameda County, which said the assessed value of my property was almost $10K more than my purchase price. NINJA PLEASE. I mean yall know that my ish took a dive and you have the audacity to say it didn’t? Then I gotta bug you again by filling out a Prop 8 Reassessment Form [no relation to Proposition 8 currently on the ballots] that you have to review so you could recalculate my property taxes. Should’ve just assessed it correctly the first time you dumb pricks!

To rub more Morton’s in the womb, I get a flyer from Bridgewater offering HOA incentives if we refer people to buy in my complex. Which is cool and all, but they have the current prices attached and its obviously lower than what most residents paid! So WTF [W = why in this case] do I wanna get people to get a better deal than me. Like I want my potential new neighbot to say "Hi, I'm Johnny. I spent $xxK less than you! *smirks*" That smirk would get a smack.

Damn I'ma grumpy fothermucker today.

The Wackness

So I’m looking at this inventory worksheet in Excel, and its probably the worst formatted worksheet ever created. For example, the text font is size 30, but the zoom is only 40% to make it appear normal size. But that in turn makes the column and row headers really teeny. I swear any font size above 12 should only be used for titles or headings. Another tab looks like a DOS printout that I don’t even think Big Blue can decipher. Also if he wants something indented, he just hits the spacebar 3 times rather than going Crtl+1: Alignment: Indent [hmmm...might be hard to break my PC habits]. I would totally expect more out of a spreadsheet created by a guy name Shehab.

Hmmm maybe I should teach an Excel formatting class. But first I need to get Office on my freaking laptop.

Taxes Unappreciation

They already get you on your paycheck, on the crap you buy, and where you live. But for real, property taxes probably suck the most. Especially supplemental tax bills that you had no idea about that you thought your title company squared away when you first closed but not really since your property had a different assessed value so you received a notice from the tax collector for money that you may not have in your escrow account but you owe anyway even though you still don't fully grasp why you owe the money. Dammit.

Don't they know I just bought a whip and want to buy a laptop and want other crap that I haven't thought about yet?? Boooooooooooo.
