Concentration & Repetition

Learning how to shoot Free Throws is basically concentration and repetition [did yall see Justin at the Espy's? Ish was mad funny.] Learning to make putts is also concentration and repetition. Doing weights is literally concentration and repetition. Freakin’ my accounting work is concentration and repetition. So tryna get my mind right also should be concentration and repetition. Concentrate and Repeat Reegsta.

As Much as I...

“All things ain't what they seem
You'll get washed, even if you're way too clean”
– “All Things” by Hiero

As much as I stunt, floss and get dipped, I’m still susceptible to getting washed. As much as I think I’m unbreakable like a Bruce and Samuel flick, I can easily cave in. As much as I try to be cognizant of my surroundings, I can get blindslided. As much as I wish for change, I’m scared that change won’t happen. As much as I pray to the Man above, I’m afraid he ain’t hearing me. As much as I put forth my efforts, I’m not sure they’ll affect anything. As much as I run, I hope I’m running toward my destination rather than away from it. As much as I hear things, I need to build on the positive and learn from the negative. As much as I parallel myself to Superman, I found my kryptonite. As much as I want something, I must handle with care. As much as I believe, my thoughts are starting to waver. As much as I like to be in control, the issues are out of my grasp. As much as I bug out, I’m thinking of using bug repellant. As much as I dream, I’m hanging by a moment, hoping to climb back up.

These are my Confessions:

- I haven’t cleaned my belly button in about 3 months
- I clear out my browsing history on my own laptop
- I eat stuff that I don’t know how long has been in my fridge…I just warm it up a little longer
- I have about 50 pairs of brand new sneakers that I’ll never wear, but I’m lazy to sell them
- I wait til poop hits the fan, because cleaning up poop regardless if its sprayed or not is the same to me
- I sometimes use words I don’t know the definition of
- I have some regrets, even though I try to abide by the ‘no regrets’ mantra
- I actually care how other people perceive Reegsta
- I talk in the 3rd person sometimes
- I have people on my buddy list that I don’t even know
- I can’t check my email at work, but I still refresh the yahoo frontpage so I can see the preview pane
- I haven’t ironed a shirt in about 2 months
- I download music still
- I won an auction for a golf club but didn’t pay for it, and I despise when that happens to me
- I pluck my nosehairs with 2 fingers even though I have a nosehair trimmer
- When I run or play sports, I still have some gas in the tank afterward
- My favorite dress shirts are all pink-based
- I think out a lot, but act out on a little
- I cut my fingernails with a toenail clipper, and get upset when they don’t have a nice curve
- If I leave streaks at my work toilet, I don’t try to reflush
- In a conversation or dialogue, I always want the last word
- I want to get into a fight even if I get a butt-whooping
- I wear sneakers with my work clothes when I walk around downtown
- I gas, break and dip into my savings more than I should
- I envy some of my friends for different reasons

The new Mr. and Mrs. Tan

Quick blog about the weekend:

- flew on Virgin America but didn’t even mess with their entertainment console…wasn’t in the right frame of mind
- our intermediate car happened to be an electric blue PT Cruiser, and I said forget all insurance for the first time
- had to pick up my tuxedo in Burbank, but ended up in East LA somehow
- rehearsal was supposed to start at 4p, but we got there at 450p. good thing they started at 430p haha. And I really think groomsmen don’t do anything really, since all I did was walk down the aisle and stand up. I was just hoping I didn’t fall into the pool
- rehearsal and Kini’s birthday dinner was at Saddle Ranch, and since even the groom’s moms rode the mechanical bull, I had to also. And I got a bruise the size of a football [no joke] just south of my left butt cheek. Ish still hurts, which kinda effected my hoops game too damn
- kicking it with the Tan’s and Ledford’s is pretty fun. I mean I’ve done it before, its just been awhile. And thanks for your talks Mrs. Tan [not Kini] and Mrs. Ledford…yall have good children, and I was glad to be part of the family-only ceremony
- Beverly Center pretty much seems the same as I last remember it…No Bow Wow, Taye Diggs or Vince Carter sightings this time around though
- I thought I was gonna drop the lechon after helping transport it from the car, and to think I didn’t even have any during the reception
- I didn’t even try on my tux when I picked it up, so thankfully it fit
- Damn I left my hair wax in Nick’s room…and it was new too dammit
- So the ceremony is supposed to start at 5p, and true to form, the bride was about 30 min late
- It was worth it though – the bride looked beautiful as well as the bridesmaids. The groomsmen were pimps obviously. And Eric looked like a Chinese Rapper with his white tux, red tie and Mirage by his side
- The actual ceremony was lovely and beautiful. They pretty much cut out all the excess stuff involved, just declared their love for each other, and were married. Eric even addressed each person in the attendance individually, and it still lasted around 30 min.
- I asked him the day before if he was gonna cry, and he couldn’t promise me he couldn’t. but he did a great job composing himself up there. ‘I love you like a fat kid loves cake’ – not really a 50 fan but that line always gets me.
- Thanks for the mention in your speech Kini – I’m always looking for words to rhyme with my name
- Dope song by Mike, who’s Eric’s future bro-in-law. He’s a good guy too.
- Jen’s husband is pretty dope too, and I’m glad I ain’t the only guy to watch TMZ.
- Good luck with the t-shirt line Jen Boogie, or Jenesis, or however you like to be called now.
- The entourage took all their pics around the hotel, so no need to go anywhere, which was great due to the horrendeous traffic down there
- Geraldine did a wonderful job helping out with the layout and everything else the couple needed, although she thinks she didn’t do much
- Open bar from the opening til the end = FTW
- Its always great to see old folks from the back in the day from my socal days, so thanks for coming out. And I’m sure E&K thank you more
- Honestly one of the best weddings I’ve been to, so I was glad to be a part of it. Just to see the adoration they had for each other, and being there when they met, for it to culminate into marital bliss was a beautiful thing
- Roscoe’s hit the spot a little too good on Sunday mornin’, so thanks Cha for treating us
- Note to self: if you spend $4 on Vitamin Water at the airport, be sure to finish it
- Here’s another perspective their photographer, along with some pics: http://blog.jsrphotography.com/
- See you again Southern Cali in 5 weeks

Rec League?

So our hoops season concluded on Sunday with an L in the semi-finals after a double-header. I tried to jump on an earlier flight to make the first game, and did, but of course it was delayed so I’m missed it. First off my prayers are with Mike that he recovers from his broken jaw and has successful surgery. Gerrard too, you still look good with them stitches over your eyelid. Here’s how crazy it was – when we brought Man G to the hospital, we saw players from the prior game also waiting for their homie who broke his arm in the first game. Damn Jeff you should’ve came this wknd instead of last, your services would’ve been appreciated. Although I felt like I didn’t want to participate in this league anymore, how Sunday’s events happened made me want to rethink that. For the record, G and Mike got injured on the same play – a play that both dove for the loose ball and collided. As a teammate, you appreciate guys sacrificing and going all out for the team. Thankfully those guys run on our football team too.

TGIT

Since this cat has a three day weekend upcoming! Anyway I’m headed down to the bad part of the state for Eric and Kini’s wedding. Time really does fly. If you peeped the website I linked and peep the pics of the other guests, you might see more than you want of yours truly. No but for real, they’re 2 of my dearest friends so I’m glad to be part of it. Man I just hope I find some time to head over for Roscoes, even if its for breakfast haha. There’s some things I miss about LA, primarily the people, but I don’t miss it really. So I don’t know what Baron Davis and now Kelenna Azuibukake are thinking.

Hopefully I’ma have pics next week! I’ma see if I can sustain my posting.

I was inspired to write this after a foodie conversation, so I hope you ballers out there can resonate with it!

I'm in the mood for dim sum, but I'm always in the mood for dim sum. So here's a lil something from the archives:

I’m bout to set if off for 0-8, yeah I know I’m 2 and a half weeks late
But nothing stuck like gum, until I thought about dim sum
Whether from a menu or from a cart, we can eat that a la carte
It don’t matter, I’m getting served up like Napolean Bonaparte

Eyes light up as the girls go around
I myself want to push a cart myself and pound
Get my sauce ready, part hot sauce and soy sauce
Afterwards don’t forget to floss

Its nice, I’m Asian and don’t even need rice
Screw that beef kung pao, I want some Hargow
What part of the poultry is elite? Try the chicken feet
Don’t know what I like more, a b-ball or a shrimp ball

Oh my? Do I see some shu mai?
I like them both the fried and steamed type
I forgot to mention I like the tripe
I don’t need any bling, but I need some type of dumpling

Shout outs to Yank Sing and the Dim Sum King
Can’t forget about TC Pastry in DC, they price cheaply
And the Flower Lounge in Millbrae, just don’t go on a weekday
And any place in Chinatown, I’m always down

Its dope because you never order too less or too much
Just order when you ate enough and such
You can have it for breakfast lunch or dinner
When you have it you’re always a winner

- aka Reeg the Dim Sum Fiend and member of the DSC taking applications anyone want dim sum later?

I'm out 5K.

The Constipated Blogger

Yeah I want to blog, but sometimes it just doesn’t come out. What’s the statute of limitations for a blogger? I’m not sure either. Well since Rolsuno started his, maybe that will rejuven8 me. I pretty much took an e-vacay in June, so none of my mindframe made it to words [well at least in a public domain]. Let’s see, here are some thoughts and bon mots:

- Stat of the Day: $70 Million in Lottery Ticket Winnings go unclaimed each year. Hmmm, what do they do with that excess cash then? And that's a whole lot of stupid people who buy tickets and don't claim them.

- I’m pretty stoked since I bought new sticks, which would be my first new irons in ten years. Maybe that’s why I’ve plateaued as a golfer? Or maybe because I haven’t been playing consistently? Or maybe because I’m past my prime? But anyways, I don’t have any excuses now if I play poorly, except maybe these clubs require a break-in period. You might be like "damn $600 for some irons?" but I did get free shipping. Haha but no for real, I received a 25% rebate using http://search.live.com, and a 10% coupon for using Paypal, so I got a brand new set for less than $400, when I was budgeting $500 for a used one, when a new one retails for $850. Dang I'm fiscally smart.

- Or did I just buy them for retail therapy? Hmmm…

- Is it still considered a major if Eldrick isn't teeing up?

- So the other day I took BART, and this dude was wearing a face mask [like what you wear when you saw wood] and had a paper towel between his head and the cushion. Either dude is the biggest germaphobe or there’s another SARS epidemic coming.

- Gilbert apparently loves it in Manila. How come I’m not surprised? Shoot, if I just signed a $111M contract, I'd love it anywhere, even Milwaukee. Pretty funny story about RJ's trade at the end. And yet again Manny meets a baller.

- Album on repeat: Keane’s “Hopes & Fears” – the album title pretty much sums up my current state of mind. I thought I was the only cat to like this group, but I read in Blender that Kanye is a fan of them, so that kinda validated the group haha [not that someone has to like them in order for me to, I'm just sayin']

- My boy Starbury got the side of his dome inked up. Not the he officially has gone off his rocker, since that happened awhile ago, but the similarities to Iron Mike Tyson are eerily similar. Child prodigies, both from Brooklyn, and both either hated or loved. Worse yet, he got the logo of his Steve & Barry’s shoes, who just filed for bankruptcy protection. Damn his timing is always off. And now that I’m thinking about it, he has his old logo from his And-1 days somewhere on his body. And I have them kicks somewhere in my closet.

- So I was listening to the New Edition station on Pandora, and “A Song for Mama” comes on by Boyz II Men. As its playing, my sister sends me an email saying that my grandma, who we refer to as Mama, has been diagnosed with cancer, so please say a lil prayer for her.

- Specialty's cookies are pretty good.

- Lastly another batch of camping pictures, courtesy of Roland.

I'm Campin', I'm cold cold Campin'

Props if you recognize that old Public Enemy song. So for the second time in my life, I went camping. 16 of us and 2 beasts rolled up to the redneck woods of Ukiah, Cali. It was good to get away from everything but not really get away from everything.

- went fishing for the first time and surprisingly didn’t catch anything. Shout out to DK for the lessons though and for being the only person to catch something
- FYI when setting up a tent, try to use a flat surface as much as possible, otherwise you’ll keep sliding down
- you don’t want to sleep at the base when 4 people are above you
- if you share a tent with snorers, make sure you’re the first to fall asleep
- be careful where you leave your underwear after you change [sorry Al]
- catchphrase: the music edition definitely needs to double check their “hip-hop” entries
- I’d be the man at Pit if I knew the rules better
- thanks to all the cooks and dishwashers
- “none of yall are really Filipino because none of you have kids” – Dennis Kwan
- Nick even brought a yo-yo for his ¼ cultural pride
- it’s 10x harder to freestyle than keystyle, but Alan’s frees sound just like his keys haha
- if you misplace your keys, its best to check your pockets first
- damn Jeff Kingsbury be working out
- we established our next Bay to Breaker theme: the rise of the Dwendes
- 12 year old whiskey isn’t really a camp appropriate beverage
- i really need to learn how to swim
- the only way I know how to drink a beer is to shotgun it. Congrats to Man G for being the champ. And he’ll serenade you afterwards.
- note to self: don’t bring any kicks you care about to camping
- Dan came with us camping? Haha jp. Thanks for fulfilling your wordcount obligation each day
- stuff I didn’t end up using: an extra tent, a mister, half my clothes, sunblock and a phone charger
- phrase of the weekend: “Since you’re already up, can you _____?” damn we’re a bunch of lazy camp-goers
- drunk Jeff L > sober Jeff L [you can tell from the pictures]
- Another camping tidbit: don’t throw away fresh new batteries
- “These are my heart songs!!” I went to sleep and this song was playing, then I woke up countless miles later and it was still playing.
- it felt pretty good coming to the City shirtless in 60 degree weather

Just like at NT how a thread is useless without pics, a post is useless with them, so here you go, courtesy of Miss Lam:

And if Roland and Michelle ever open up an account, we'll see theirs also.

Keystyle Fridays

From the Cipher Ring:

Rols rhymes you’ll memorize, reegs raps make u mesmerize
I’m large like a fat sweater size
Yall can’t see me, I got a better disguise
When my keystyle comes through cats get butterflies

Chillin at my desk the Friday before Memorial
Dressing casual, but yall know I’m still sartorial
Drop a verse in a snap like I was doin a pictorial [get it?]
I collect Ws, I’m the victor for real

Just wrote a threads piece on ploomy
I’ma dapper OG, you just a wack newbie
Since I’m that Guy, make your chick Groove Me
Droppin’ another gem like broken jewelry

I run the 1-2 for Coast II Coast and CYO’s Finest
Baller galore, I assist and score, my game is flyest
Sike I miss open layups, wish I had my old Air Wayups
It’s the insomniac MC, I just stay up

I wonder what the reaction to this article will be. Since I chose pretty conservative gear, maybe I can't steer too much of a reaction. All good I welcome hate.

Excited to play golf tomorrow, so hope the weather cooperates. Will have a golf course review next tuesday hopefully. Hope all three of you have a good Memorial Day weekend!

Bay 2 Breakers

So a group of us participated in the 97th annual B2B, and i've been around for 29 of them, yet this was my first time to do it. Go figure. And an awesome experience it was! Its supposed to be one of the world's largest block parties, and by judging the pictures, I am in total accordance with that statement.

Everyone loves legos, so that's what we were! Thanks to Alan's pinsans for the bonne idee [uhh how's that for some frantaglish??]. Props to the runners for actually running it: Rach, Mark, Sheryl, Gerrard, Michelle* and whomever else, but more props to the legos! In retrospect, I dont' recall orange legos, but whatever. I was inspired by the SF Giants.

Granted we didn't finish the race, but the race finished me.

Anyways I'll let the pictures tell the story. The people participating are pretty creative!

Decluttering your Crib

How to Declutter Your Home: Be the Master of Your Domain

Here's something I wrote after looking around my crib and realizing that I need to clean. I used myself as inspiration, and made numerous references to me. So unless you're me, and chances are you're not, then maybe you can't really see the parallels. Oh well.

Change is Good

So the past few years I've been accumulating my change. I even changed my purchasing strategies, like if something costs $1.06, I'd give $2 even though I may have a dime in my pocket. I was inspired by those guys who bought a car or whatever major with all their loose coins lying around. But now its getting to the point where the Corona bucket is almost full, so I might just cash it out. I have no idea how much 45 lbs [less 0.2 for the TARE scale] of coinage is worth though. Shoot I can just get a 45lb plate from the gym and start bench-pressing them. I'm contemplating using the proceeds for a laptop, but I still might have ways to go. Maybe I should just have a contest to see who gets closest to it. Whatever the case is, for sure I'm not going to CoinStar though since I'ma put my rolling skills to use.

A Double Feature

Okay I’ma try this new scale for my 60 secs movie reviews:

5 – Opening weekend worthy
4 – Matinee showing worthy
3 – Wait for the DVD
2 – Wait til it randomly shows on TV
1 – Its not even acceptable to watch it on a plane ride

Juno

So after listening to all the hype, G and I decided to watch this movie. While I appreciate its offbeat and somewhat quirky plot, I felt that it lacked a certain something. Then again I can’t exactly relate to a pregnant 16 year old, so maybe it didn’t resonate with me? I just know that I would be mad anxious for impending parenthood at my current age, so I would be pooping cinder blocks if I was in their age group. And I’m imagining that’s definitely how G would act if we were put in that situation haha. But besides the case, I thought for such a fast paced flick, the characters were developed well and filmmakers were able to convey their message rather swiftly.

I’d gave it 3.5 out of 5

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I don’t want to hype it up, but this was the funniest movie I’ve seen since Superbad. And Mila Kunis jumped from “honorable mention” to Top 10 after this performance. I mean she was like George Mason in 2006. Malculay Culkin is that dude. In this movie, she was like the Hawaiian version of a Kristin Kreuk/Rachel Bilson hybrid. Jason Segel’s character rebounded here like Dennis Rodman. Also the title character isn’t too shabby either. Ironically, these two ladies were on recent Complex covers, so someone there is doing something right. Anyway ladies - don’t break your man’s heart since payback kinda sucks. And it would behoove me to mention that the secondary characters take this flick to another level. Just go out and watch it, even by yourself if you have to. I’ma definitely maybe buy the DVD when it comes out, at least when it drops to under $10.

I’d give it 4.5 out of 5

050108: The Departed

You know what? Myspace isn't a good blogging zone. I've reference that I may transition to another avenue to post my thoughts, and that's what I have done. Well actually, I just e-dusted off my old site. So you can find the new ReegSpeak back where you originally found him:

http://reegsta.blogspot.com/

Sayonara!
.

Welcome Back!

It’s the Reegturn of my favorite blog - my own! If you peruse right, there’s a gap from 2005 through 2008. Similarly to the New Testament, Jesus’s life wasn’t talked about for a long period of time. In Supeman Returns, Clark Kent was about 7 years away from Earth while exploring Krypton. So I guess this gap also marks my sabbatical, and yes this ninja just compared himself to the homies Jesus and Superman, who are the only two eternal mancrushes I have. Anyway, I’m in the process of overhauling this whole page, so gone are a few of the applications that I had on the old site.

Loyalists know that I was using Myspace’s Blog, but I realized that it sucked harder than a Dyson. It was like a broken abacus so it didn’t really count; I just wanted to get my fingers wet. However I’ll transition those here so I can be like Sears-Roebuck and catalog my works. I might even put all my ploomy articles here if I get reproduction rights, so I hope Ant doesn’t go all Suge Knight on me. Okay thanks for bearing with me as I’m working on my analogies, them last few were brutal!
